Hi, I'm Aiden Wood.

I'm a design engineer — which is a deliberate way of saying the designer and the developer on your project are the same person. No translation layer, no "the dev didn't build what design drew". One head, one craft, start to finish.

I've spent 15 years across IT, design, marketing and generative visuals. That range is the point: I can shape your brand, build the site, wire the operations behind it, and run the campaigns that fill it — and make all of those decisions agree with each other.

The Velocity journey

Velocity wasn't a product I set out to build — it's a decade of UI, performance and tooling work that slowly compounded into a framework. Here's how it got from a folder of favourite components to the fastest, cheapest way to own a custom website.

  1. 2014–2017

    Cutting my teeth

    Falling for how things look and feel to use

    These were the years I fell hard for design — how a screen looks, and how it feels to actually use. An internship at Halfbrick Studios in Brisbane taught me how real products get made, and I was hooked.

  2. 2017

    Velocity begins

    The first pieces of Velocity come together

    I started gathering my favourite bits of work — the buttons, the layouts, the little interactions I kept reaching for — into one tidy kit. I didn't know it yet, but that folder was the very beginning of Velocity.

  3. 2018–2020

    Going deep on speed

    Chasing genuinely fast websites

    I got a little obsessed with speed — how quick could a site really be? That rabbit hole won 1st place at the Griffith University Science Competition, and by then Velocity was quietly running about 10 real websites in the wild.

  4. 2018–2020

    The framework reveals itself

    It starts to feel like a real framework

    Then the bigger idea clicked: keep a large site fast even as it grows, and make it so the everyday team — not just developers — can safely change their own site through the component library. That's the moment it stopped being a kit and started being a mission.

  5. 2021

    All-in on Velocity

    A whole year, heads-down on Velocity

    I took the better part of a year off client work and gave Velocity everything — a proper admin dashboard, a CRM for the team, secure logins and edge functions throughout, even its own command-line tool. Hundreds of lines a day, every line by hand. It was a grind, and I loved it.

  6. 2022–now

    The last year of hand-written code

    Letting AI into the workflow

    Funny thing — all that hand-written code turned out to be the perfect groundwork for what came next: Copilot, then Cursor, then Claude Code. A couple of wild years into building alongside AI, and I can honestly say Velocity is now one of the fastest, most affordable ways to get a custom website your business truly owns.

    Top of the cohort on the engineering side.

    1st in Class — Graphic & 3D Design

    And top of the cohort on the design side, the same year. The two have never been separate for me.

  4. 2016

    Bachelor of Interactive Entertainment — QUT

    Interactive systems, real-time graphics, and how people actually experience software.

  5. 2018

    Two years toward a double degree, Business & Design — Griffith University

    Bachelor of Business + Bachelor of Design — the commercial half of the craft, before client work took over full-time.
