Buy-once, own the code, one expert instead of an agency — it's reasonable to ask where the trick is. So here are the honest trade-offs, no spin.
"Buy-once, own the code" sounds too good — where's the recurring fee? +
There isn't a hidden one. You pay for the build; the repo is yours. The honest trade-off: hosting, your domain, and any third-party services (email, SMS, payments) are billed by those providers directly at cost — not marked up by me. If you want me on a retainer for ongoing work later, that's a separate choice you make, not a subscription baked in.
If I own the code, what stops me from just leaving? +
Nothing — and that's the point. The leverage isn't lock-in, it's that the work is good enough you won't want to. I'd rather earn the next project than trap you in this one. You can hand the repo to any developer; it's clean, typed and documented so they won't curse my name.
One person instead of an agency — what happens if you're sick or busy? +
Fair question, and the real answer: I scope realistically and I don't overcommit. You get direct access instead of an account-manager buffer, which means faster decisions but a human on the other end. For anything mission-critical, the fact that you own the code means you're never dependent on me to keep the lights on.
Is this just a template with my logo dropped on? +
No. Velocity X is a proven foundation — the architecture, integrations and patterns are battle-tested — but your design, content and workflows are built around your business, not a theme swap. The foundation is why it's fast and affordable; the bespoke work on top is why it doesn't look like everyone else's.
Why is this cheaper than a big agency for more? +
Because you're not paying for three layers of management, a sales team, and a glass office. You're paying one expert who does the design and the engineering. Less overhead, fewer handoffs, no margin stacked on subcontractors. The savings are structural, not a quality cut.
